Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

Dear friends and colleagues,

What a year! 2009 has been full of surprises. First came our decision to disband as New World Linguists, then my family and I decided to move back to the United States from Costa Rica. Kara's family experienced some long deserved success in her husband's passion of raising and training thoroughbred horses. My husband also received some much deserved recognition in his passion, coffee, winning 5th place in Costa Rica's Cup of Excellence competition this year.

My decision to go it alone as a freelancer again has proven to be busy and fruitful! Thank you to all of my clients for making this year another rewarding year, and allowing me to do what I enjoy, and do it in the comfort of my home office! Word of mouth has been excellent advertising, and I want to thank my clients who have referred me to other colleagues. You are the best resume!

Many of my clients know that I was offered a job with the government. There was a glitch however, and because we had lived overseas for the last 6 years, I may not be eligible for the job. Therefore, in 2010, I will still be available to my clients (and new ones as well!) for translation, editing and proofreading. I look forward to continuing to work with you in the new year!

Have a safe and happy holiday season around the world, and I'll see you again in the 2010!

Welcome to New World Linguists' new Web presence!

Dear friends, colleagues and clients,

After almost 11 years, New World Linguists, Inc., has decided to de-incorporate in 2009. This company was started for two reasons: first was to always strive to provide quality-oriented language services to government and corporate clients, and second was to allow both Kara and myself to balance our home lives and our work lives in a way that made sense for us.

Eleven years later, we have realized that while New World is still working to provide quality language services, the corporation is no longer "working" for us. We find ourselves at a crossroads of sorts, and are each choosing the path that serves us best. In Kara's case this is a job with the government, and in my case, I will continue to provide freelance translation services from my home office.

Therefore, there will be some changes. First among which is this blog. We are taking down our Web site, and will use this blog to keep in touch with colleagues and clients, and keep up with translation news in general. We will also be canceling the 301-498-0065 phone number, and the 240-282-8996 e-fax number. We will still be accessible through this blog, through our individual e-mail accounts, as well as skype, skype-in, and our individual fax numbers.
For clients for whom I have been providing services, the only thing that will change is that invoices will now come directly from me, and not through New World Linguists, Inc.

Over the years, I feel I have been incredibly fortunate to have a business partner in whom I can completely and entirely trust, and a friendship whose bonds will not dissolve with the corporation. We have had an amazing journey together, and will continue to collaborate on a professional level. We have also been fortunate in that we have worked with some very talented freelance translators, with whom we hope to continue working when projects so require.
We'd like to thank all of our past clients who put their trust in us for their translation needs. We will continue to be available to you, and look forward to continuing to work with you. Thanks to everyone who participated in the New World story. We wouldn't have wanted to do it any other way than how we did. And we feel at peace with this new decision to continue our "Inc-less" personal and professional journeys.

Looking forward to our continuing journey,

Yours sincerely,
Judi O'Brien
